The Tale of Venkatesha and Padmavati

In the heavens, there was a misunderstanding between Lord Vishnu and his devoted wife, Goddess Lakshmi. A divine incident caused her to feel dishonored, and, deeply hurt, Lakshmi decided to leave Vishnu and descended to Earth. Heartbroken and missing Lakshmi, Vishnu followed her, taking on a human form. He arrived on Earth as Venkatesha, and settled on the sacred hill of Tirumala, awaiting the day he would be reunited with his beloved Lakshmi.

In the kingdom of Earth, King Aksharaja was a pious ruler who longed for a child. Hoping for a blessing, he performed a grand ritual and then plowed the sacred Earth as part of the ceremony. Miraculously, from the ground, a beautiful lotus flower emerged, and within it was a radiant baby girl. The king was overjoyed and took this child, whom he named Padmavati, as his own daughter, raising her with all the love in his heart. Little did he know that Padmavati was, in fact, a reincarnation of Lakshmi herself.

Years later, Padmavati grew into a graceful and wise young woman, admired by all who saw her. Meanwhile, Venkatesha, still longing for his beloved Lakshmi, wandered the forests and hills until he happened upon a royal entourage. Among them, he saw Padmavati, and instantly, he recognized her as his lost Lakshmi. Overcome with love, he approached King Aksharaja and expressed his wish to marry Padmavati.

Seeing Venkatesha’s nobility and deep affection, King Aksharaja gave his blessing, and the union of Venkatesha and Padmavati was celebrated with great joy. The two souls, once separated, were finally reunited, bringing peace to both Earth and the heavens.

Their story is immortalized in the temple of Tirumala, where Lord Venkatesha, or Venkateswara, is worshipped as an incarnation of Vishnu, with Padmavati as his eternal consort. Devotees believe that through this sacred bond, Venkatesha and Padmavati bless all who come to seek their grace, reminding them of the eternal love that binds the divine together.
