The Story of Devahuti

In ancient times, there was a noble king named Manu and his queen, Shatarupa. They had a daughter named Devahuti, who was known for her beauty, grace, and devotion to her family. As she grew up, Devahuti expressed a desire to marry the great sage Kardama, a revered and wise man who had dedicated his life to meditation and spiritual practice.

Wanting to fulfill their daughter’s wish, Manu and Shatarupa sought out Kardama and proposed a marriage alliance. Kardama, though initially hesitant due to his commitment to a simple and austere life, agreed on one condition. He stated that once they had a child, he would return to the forest to continue his meditation, leaving behind worldly attachments. Manu accepted this condition, and Devahuti and Kardama were married.

In time, Devahuti and Kardama’s life was blessed with happiness. Devahuti bore nine daughters, each radiant and virtuous. Kardama, having fulfilled his duty, prepared to leave the household and return to his life of solitude and meditation. However, Devahuti was overcome with worry, fearing she would not be able to raise her daughters alone.

Seeing her distress, Kardama reassured Devahuti. He encouraged her to find strength in devotion and told her that if she surrendered herself to God, she would be guided and protected. He promised that through faith, her responsibilities would become lighter.

With a heart full of faith, Devahuti immersed herself in worship. In due time, she was blessed with a son named Kapil, who grew up to be a great sage and a guiding light for Devahuti. Under Kapil’s guidance, Devahuti dedicated herself to spiritual practices, meditating on the banks of the river Saraswati. As her daughters grew older, they too were married off and settled into their own lives, leaving Devahuti in a state of peaceful solitude.

Completely lost in devotion and guided by Kapil’s wisdom, Devahuti attained a deep spiritual awakening. She reached the state of *moksha* (salvation) and attained enlightenment. The place where she meditated and achieved liberation became known as Siddhapad, a site revered by future generations.
