The Monkey and the Two Cats
Once upon a time, two cats came across a piece of delicious cheese. However, when they cut it into two pieces, one piece turned out to be slightly bigger than the other. Naturally, both cats wanted the bigger piece.
Unable to come to an agreement, they decided to ask a monkey to settle the dispute. The monkey, ever eager to show off its cleverness, agreed to help and said, “Don’t worry, I will make the pieces equal.”
The monkey took a bite from the bigger piece, but this made the other piece look bigger. So, the monkey took a bite from the smaller piece, making it even smaller. This process continued, with the monkey nibbling back and forth from both pieces, until the cheese became so small that there was nothing left.
At last, the cats, realizing they had been outsmarted, begged, “Sir, we are satisfied now. Please, let us have the pieces!”
The monkey, grinning, replied, “This is my fee for sorting out the problem,” and gobbled up the last of the cheese.
Moral of the story: Sometimes, those who try to settle disputes may only end up benefiting themselves. Be cautious when seeking help from the wrong source.
