Krishna, knowing that his beloved Rukmini was being forced into an unwanted marriage, devised a daring plan to rescue her. With courage and determination, he swept her away in his chariot, racing toward Dwarka.

News of Rukmini’s abduction soon reached her brother, Rukmi, who was furious. Determined to defend his family’s honor, Rukmi gathered his soldiers and set out to stop Krishna. Along the way, he met Balarama, Krishna’s brother, who tried to calm Rukmi and prevent a violent confrontation. Rukmi, however, refused to listen.

Rukmi chased Krishna down, launching arrow after arrow, yet his efforts were in vain. Finally, Krishna struck Rukmi’s horse, sending him tumbling to the ground. Enraged, Rukmi attacked with his sword, but Krishna skillfully broke the weapon in two, leaving Rukmi defenseless.

As Krishna prepared to strike Rukmi, Rukmini fell at his feet, pleading for mercy on her brother’s behalf. Moved by her heartfelt appeal, Krishna spared Rukmi’s life but chose to punish him in a way that would humble him. With a swift cut, Krishna shaved off part of Rukmi’s hair and mustache—a mark of dishonor for a warrior in those times.

With Rukmini by his side, Krishna returned triumphantly to Dwarka, where they were soon wed in a grand celebration.

Moral: True strength lies in mercy and restraint, even when one has the power to defeat.
