Jumma and the Seven Thieves: A Tale of Clever Bravery
Jumma and the Seven Thieves
In a bustling kingdom filled with people from every walk of life, there lived a man named Jumma, known across the village as “Jumma Ka Dada.” Jumma was not famous for bravery or wisdom, nor was he known for hard work. Instead, Jumma was famous for his laziness. He would sleep through the mornings, yawn through the afternoons, and watch the stars at night, doing nothing productive while his elderly mother worked tirelessly in town to bring back food for them both.
One bright morning, as Jumma sat scratching his head in boredom outside his hut, he noticed seven flies buzzing around the leftover food his mother had brought home. With nothing else to do, Jumma clapped his hands over the flies, killing all seven at once. His eyes widened in surprise, and suddenly, Jumma jumped up, shouting with joy, “I have killed seven thieves at once! Seven thieves at once!”
His loud claim traveled quickly through the village and soon reached the ears of the king. The king, known to believe in every rumor he heard, was impressed by Jumma’s supposed bravery. Thinking that Jumma had killed seven actual thieves with his bare hands, the king called him to the palace and offered him a position in the royal army, believing he would be a strong protector of the kingdom.
Jumma happily accepted the position, grateful for the salary and the respect it brought. For the first time, he and his mother could eat comfortably without worrying about the next meal. They moved into a small house near the palace, and Jumma continued his lazy life, pretending to be a hero.
But as fate would have it, one day, news arrived at the palace that seven dangerous robbers were planning to raid the town and loot the royal treasury. The king immediately summoned Jumma, declaring, “Brave Jumma, just as you defeated seven thieves before, I command you to protect the kingdom again!”
Jumma’s heart sank. He had never fought a real thief in his life, let alone seven dangerous robbers. He returned home and, with tears in his eyes, told his mother about the king’s order.
His mother, wise and practical, listened patiently and patted Jumma on the shoulder. “Do not worry, my son. If the king believes you are a hero, we will show him that you are one, even if in our own way.”
The next morning, Jumma’s mother requested a strong horse from the king, claiming that Jumma needed it for the mission. They placed the horse under a sturdy tree near the path where the robbers were rumored to hide. Jumma’s mother then tied Jumma to the trunk of the tree while Jumma, trembling with fear, clung to the horse’s back.
She then took a red-hot iron rod and pricked the horse’s back, causing it to neigh wildly and charge forward. With Jumma tied to the tree and the tree dragging behind, a massive cloud of dust rose into the sky as branches broke and leaves scattered, making a terrifying noise that echoed through the forest.
The seven robbers, hiding nearby, saw the storm of dust and the tree being dragged behind a charging horse. They thought the king had sent a mighty force to crush them and, in fear, fled into the deep woods, leaving behind their stolen goods and food in a hurry.
The horse, exhausted, stopped near the robbers’ abandoned camp to graze on the leftover food. Jumma, though shaken, managed to untie himself and noticed the loot the robbers had left behind. Quickly, he gathered the valuables and loaded them onto the horse, returning triumphantly to the town.
When the king and the townspeople saw Jumma returning with the robbers’ loot, they believed that he had single-handedly defeated the seven dangerous thieves. Overjoyed, the king rewarded Jumma with a large prize of gold and a beautiful new house where he could live comfortably with his mother.
From that day onward, Jumma was celebrated as a hero in the kingdom. But in his heart, Jumma knew that it was not his strength that had saved the kingdom but the wisdom and courage of his old mother.
Lesson / Moral of the Story:
Bravery is not always about physical strength; sometimes, wisdom and clever thinking can defeat even the strongest challenges. Never underestimate the power of a mother’s wisdom.
