Indrajit and Vibhishana: The Voice of Wisdom

Ravana, the powerful king of Lanka, gathered his ministers to discuss strategies for the upcoming battle with Rama. Vibhishana, Ravana’s younger brother, attended the council and tried to counsel his brother. He pleaded, “Brother, please abandon your desire for Sita. Rama is a formidable warrior, and pursuing this path of sin will only lead to ruin for all of us.”

However, Vibhishana’s words were met with hostility. Indrajit, Ravana’s son, angrily accused him, “You are a coward and a traitor! Instead of supporting your own family, you speak in favor of our enemy.”

Despite his family’s scorn, Vibhishana remained firm, trying to explain that wisdom and righteousness were more valuable than blind loyalty. But his voice was drowned out by the ministers, who urged Ravana to continue the fight, fanning his pride and anger.

Encouraged by his advisors and driven by his own ego, Ravana turned to Vibhishana and said, “You dare speak for my enemy? You are a disgrace to our family and our race. Leave this place before I am forced to kill you.”

Realizing that his brother was beyond reason, Vibhishana chose to leave Ravana’s court. He sought refuge with Rama, knowing that righteousness would ultimately prevail. His departure symbolized a moral choice, valuing virtue over familial loyalty when faced with injustice.

**Moral:** True loyalty sometimes means speaking hard truths, even if it costs you everything. Standing by righteousness is greater than blind allegiance to those who stray from the path of virtue.
