Indra Grants Rama a Wish
The fierce war between Rama and Ravana had finally come to an end, with Rama emerging victorious. The battlefield was strewn with the bodies of fallen warriors and loyal monkeys from Sugreeva’s army, who had fought bravely to help Rama rescue Sita. Though victorious, Rama’s heart was heavy with sorrow, seeing the loss of so many noble beings who had sacrificed their lives for his cause.
As Rama stood amidst the devastation, Indra, the king of the gods, appeared before him. Indra was moved by Rama’s strength, honor, and devotion and wished to reward him for his righteous victory. With compassion, he said, “Rama, the gods are pleased with you. You may ask for any wish, and it shall be granted.”
Rama’s thoughts immediately turned to the brave monkeys who had laid down their lives in battle. He looked at Indra with humility and said, “I am deeply grateful for this victory, but my heart aches for the brave soldiers of Sugreeva’s army who gave their lives for my cause. My only wish is for them to be restored to life so that they may return to their families. I also wish that their homeland be blessed with trees and fruits in abundance, so they may always dwell in comfort and peace.”
Indra, touched by Rama’s selfless wish, granted his request. With a wave of his divine hand, he sent blessings over the battlefield. One by one, the fallen monkeys began to stir, their lives miraculously restored. They rose, bewildered but unharmed, and looked around in awe at the miracle that had unfolded.
Seeing his devoted allies alive once more, Rama’s heart filled with gratitude and joy. The monkeys, too, were deeply moved, realizing that their king had thought of them even in his moment of triumph. The gods smiled down upon this scene, marveling at Rama’s compassion and loyalty.
After granting Rama’s wish, Indra and the other gods requested him to return to Ayodhya and reclaim his rightful place as king. Rama, along with Lakshmana and Sita, bid a tearful farewell to their allies. Sita, who had endured so much, looked at the friends who had supported them with gratitude in her eyes.
With a heart full of love and reverence, Rama set out for Ayodhya, ready to accept his role as king and lead his people with the same compassion and justice that had won the favor of the gods.
**Moral:** True greatness lies in compassion and selflessness. Even in moments of victory, thinking of others and honoring their sacrifices is the mark of a noble heart.
