One day, Bahlool visited Harun al-Rashid and found him deep in thought. Curious, Bahlool asked, “What are you pondering?”

Harun replied, “I’m contemplating the fleeting and treacherous nature of this world.”

Bahlool, with his characteristic wit, responded, “There’s no need for such contemplation. If the world were loyal, you would never have inherited the throne, as it would have remained with those before you.”

Harun then recited a verse:
“Oh Bahlool, if only this world’s foundation were firm and eternal!”

Bahlool replied with a sharp retort:
“O Commander, if it were so, it wouldn’t even have passed to Adam.”

Once again, Bahlool’s wisdom and humor revealed the truth of life’s impermanence, reminding Harun that power and possessions are but fleeting gifts of a transient world.
