One evening, Emperor Akbar hosted a grand feast for his esteemed guests and ministers. Birbal was among the invitees. A variety of exquisite dishes were served, and everyone enjoyed the delightful spread. After dinner, the guests requested some entertainment.

A skilled storyteller was invited to the court, and his witty tales soon had everyone laughing heartily. Akbar was thoroughly entertained and, impressed by the storyteller’s talent, gifted him a bag of gold coins.

The storyteller, overjoyed, bowed deeply and said, “Your Majesty, you are the greatest of all kings, and truly, you are even greater than God!”

The court fell silent at these words. The ministers and guests exchanged worried glances, wondering how anyone could claim the emperor to be greater than God. Akbar, however, was amused by the storyteller’s flattery and decided to enjoy the moment.

When the storyteller left, Akbar turned to his ministers and guests and asked, “Do you all agree with what he said? Do you think I am greater than God?”

The court was filled with an uneasy silence. The ministers feared offending the emperor but were unsure of how to respond. Sensing their hesitation, Akbar pressed further, “If I am indeed greater than God, tell me, how am I greater?”

Birbal’s Clever Explanation

Finally, Akbar turned to Birbal and said, “Birbal, tell me, do you believe I am greater than God?”

Birbal, ever the quick thinker, bowed and replied, “Your Majesty, you are indeed capable of something that even God cannot do.”

Intrigued, Akbar leaned forward and asked, “And what might that be?”

Birbal smiled and said, “You, Your Majesty, can banish someone from your kingdom. However, God, being the ruler of the entire universe, has no place to send anyone away to. In this sense, you are indeed greater than God.”

Hearing this, Akbar burst into laughter. The court, relieved and impressed by Birbal’s clever answer, joined in.

Moral of the Story:

Wit and wisdom can resolve even the trickiest situations with grace and humor.

This tale showcases Birbal’s unparalleled intellect and his ability to navigate delicate situations, leaving both Akbar and the court entertained and enlightened.
