Long ago, in a kingdom far beyond the reach of common travelers, there lived a beautiful young princess named Priscilla. She had a gentle heart and a radiant smile that warmed even the coldest days. Her life seemed blessed — she had loving parents, a grand palace, and a future filled with promise.

But fate was not always kind.

When Priscilla was very young, her beloved mother passed away, leaving the King heartbroken and the princess motherless. The King soon remarried, for the kingdom needed a Queen. His new wife was a stunningly beautiful young woman named Regina, who was barely older than Priscilla herself. Though the King hoped for harmony, the arrival of Queen Regina brought a secret that would change everything.

Regina carried with her a sleek black dagger, adorned with deep red rubies. It was a symbol of her mysterious past and the power she wielded quietly behind her beauty.

From the moment Priscilla and Regina met, an unspoken bond grew between them — a love that blossomed in secret letters and stolen moments. Their hearts were drawn to one another, though their love was forbidden and hidden deep beneath layers of palace intrigue.

One late spring day, while Princess Priscilla was writing a letter to Regina under the guise of schoolwork, the King entered her chamber. His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

“What are you working on, Priscilla?” he asked sharply.

Startled, she tried to hide the letter beneath her desk.

“Oh, just an essay about the different types of poisonous berries,” she lied softly.

But the King was no fool. He snatched the letter from under the desk and read the secret confession of love. His face darkened with anger.

“No one in my kingdom will carry such sickness,” he roared, commanding that Priscilla be cast out from the castle.

Before the guards could seize her, Regina stepped forward.

“Wait,” she said calmly. “I know of a cure for this ‘sickness.’ My brother once suffered similarly. We sent him to a special place deep in the forest — he came back healed. Let her go there, and she will be as good as new.”

The King, unwilling to lose his daughter forever, reluctantly agreed.

And so, Priscilla was sent away from the castle to the care of Regina’s loyal friends living in the woods.

Years passed.

Regina visited often, bringing gifts — delicate lace, fine combs, and sweet treats — small reminders of the world beyond the trees. The friends who cared for Priscilla cherished her, and slowly her name began to spread to neighboring kingdoms as a legend of the beautiful maiden hidden in the forest.

One day, a prince from a far kingdom heard of the maiden’s story. Believing he could cure her of her supposed sickness, he set out to find her.

On a spring visit, Regina arrived with a basket of apples from the King — a symbol of trust and goodwill. Priscilla bit into one apple and suddenly collapsed, as if dead.

Regina rushed to her side in panic, but before she could check on her, the prince appeared.

Not wanting to be seen, Regina fled back to the castle, devastated and inconsolable. Despair led her to the black dagger she had brought with her so long ago. Overwhelmed by grief, she plunged it into her heart.

At that very moment, the prince dislodged the piece of apple from Priscilla’s throat, and she gasped back to life.

“Where is Regina?” she whispered, but the prince could only remain silent.

Understanding her story, the prince took Priscilla to the castle and asked the King for her hand in marriage. The King, relieved she had been ‘cured’ and assuming Regina’s death ended the threat, agreed.

The next day, the prince began his journey to bring Priscilla to his kingdom to wed. But tragedy struck — the prince died mysteriously on the road.

Unaware of this fate, the King began writing the story of his reign, recounting the tragedy of an evil stepmother casting out his beloved daughter.

Priscilla, returning secretly to the castle kitchen, used her knowledge of berries and potions. Within a week, three royals lay dead — one by her own hand, and the truth behind the others a dark mystery.

Priscilla never married. She ruled her kingdom with a steady, unwavering hand and kept many loyal friends close. The story says that forbidden love is the kind that never truly fades, lingering like a shadow even when no one wishes to remember it.

Moral of the Story:

Love that defies rules may be dangerous, but it never truly dies. Courage and resilience shape the fate of those brave enough to follow their hearts.
