The Code of War: Ethics in the Kurukshetra Battle

On the eve of the epic battle of Kurukshetra, Krishna and the Pandavas gathered to prepare for the war. Across the field, Bhishma, the revered elder and commander of the Kauravas, discussed the battle strategies with Duryodhana. Both sides knew that the impending conflict would bring immense suffering, but they also knew that honor and respect for life must prevail, even in war.

5. **Protection of Non-Combatants and Resources:** Soldiers carrying food, water, and other essential supplies were exempt from attacks. The sustenance of both armies was considered sacred, as it supported life itself.

6. **No Attacks on Medical Camps:** The camps where wounded soldiers received care were off-limits, ensuring that the injured could be treated without fear. Even amidst war, compassion and respect for life would be upheld.

With these rules in place, the commanders of both sides addressed their warriors, urging them to fight bravely and honorably, to follow the code, and to remember that a warrior either returns victorious or dies fighting.
