Once again, as King Vikram carried Betal on his shoulders, Betal began to narrate a new story to pass the time.

There was once a wealthy man named Bhupati who had a son named Chander. Chander was pampered and rarely put effort into his studies. In contrast, Bhupati’s servant Bhola had a son named Suraj, who was diligent, hardworking, and excelled in his studies.

Bhola had a simple wish: he wanted his son Suraj to have the opportunity for higher studies and a better future. However, he could not afford this on his own and approached Bhupati for assistance. But Bhupati was unwilling to provide the money, seeing no need to invest in the education of a servant’s son.

One day, by chance, Bhupati overheard a conversation between Chander and Suraj. Chander asked Suraj, “Why do you even want to pursue higher studies? I can help you set up a business instead. Money is all you need.” Suraj, with determination, replied, “I don’t want wealth alone; I want knowledge to make something of myself.”

These words struck Bhupati deeply. He suddenly realized that Chander, his own son, was being outshone by Suraj’s ambition and drive. Fearing that his son might fall behind, Bhupati had a change of heart. He decided that if he allowed Suraj to pursue higher studies, it would motivate Chander to put in more effort and rise to the challenge.

With this newfound understanding, Bhupati provided the money to Bhola, enabling Suraj to further his education. Seeing Suraj’s progress, Chander felt a spark of competitiveness ignite within him. Inspired to improve himself, Chander began to study harder, and soon both young men were working toward their goals.

After finishing his tale, Betal asked Vikram, “Why did Bhupati change his mind?”

Vikram replied, “Bhupati realized that the healthy competition with Suraj would motivate his son, Chander, to strive for excellence. He knew that Chander would work harder if he had someone to compete with.”

Betal was impressed, saying, “You are indeed wise,” before flying away once again.

**Moral of the Story:** Healthy competition can be a powerful motivator, encouraging individuals to strive for success. Sometimes, challenges presented by others bring out our best efforts, pushing us to grow and improve.
