Bahlool’s Witty Compliment

One day, Harun al-Rashid and a group of courtiers went hunting, and Bahlool accompanied them. A deer appeared in the hunting grounds. The Caliph shot an arrow at the deer, but it missed, and the deer escaped.
Bahlool exclaimed, “Well done!”
The Caliph became angry and shouted, “Are you mocking me?”
Bahlool replied, “My compliment was for the deer, not for you!”
