A man gave Bahlool some walnuts and said, “Break them open and eat, and please say a prayer for me.” Bahlool cracked open the walnuts and ate them, but did not say a prayer. The man asked, “You ate the walnuts, but I did not hear you pray for me?” Bahlool replied, “Rest assured, if you gave them in the way of God, then God Himself heard the sound of the walnuts cracking. Do not act as a servant who only expects a reward. The master knows how to nurture his servant properly.”

In this story, Bahlool subtly teaches the value of selflessness and trust in God’s generosity, pointing out that actions done in God’s name are enough, without needing a personal reward or recognition.
