Bahlool and the Singing Bird
One day, Bahlool was walking along the road with a friend when they saw a beautiful bird perched on a tree branch, singing a delightful song. Bahlool’s friend remarked, “How sweet is the song of this love-stricken bird!” Bahlool replied, “Yes, but it’s a pity that with this beautiful song, it is building a cage for itself.” Just then, a hunter arrived, set a trap, and caught the singing bird, placing it in a cage.
This story illustrates Bahlool’s awareness of how seemingly pleasant things can lead to one’s downfall. The bird’s beautiful song, which is its joy, ultimately leads to its captivity.
