Bahlool and the Grave Digger
One day, Bahlool passed by a woman weeping bitterly at a grave. Curious, he approached her and asked, “Who is buried here?”
The woman replied, “It is the grave of my husband.”
Bahlool then asked, “What was his occupation?”
The woman answered, “He was a grave digger.”
Bahlool, with a touch of irony, remarked, “Did he not realize that the one who digs graves will one day be placed in one himself?”
His poignant comment reminded her—and all those present—of the inevitability of death and the importance of preparing for the hereafter, no matter one’s worldly occupation or status.
