Bahlool and Gaining the Compassion of the Great

One day, the prime minister of Harun al-Rashid asked Bahlool, “Are you truly a fool, or are you pretending to be one?” Bahlool replied, “It is true that I have acted foolishly in order to gain the compassion and kindness of your esteemed self.”
