One day, the ruler of Baghdad asked Bahlool, “Would you like to always be healthy and in good condition?” Bahlool replied, “No, because if I were to live always in comfort, my desires and worldly cravings would grow stronger, and I would become forgetful of God. My true well-being lies in my current state, and I ask my Lord to forgive my sins, withhold nothing of His mercy, and grant me what I truly deserve.”

In this response, Bahlool emphasizes the dangers of indulgence and comfort, suggesting that hardship can be a means of remaining humble and spiritually aware. His answer highlights a perspective that values spiritual growth over material well-being.
