Princess of the Orange Citadel: A Magical Tale of Courage
In a quiet village beside a shimmering lake lived a widowed fisherman and his three daughters. Their days were simple and filled with the gentle rhythms of the water. But one morning, the youngest daughter noticed something strange—the water level was rising, creeping steadily higher than it ever had before. What puzzled her most was the source: a mysterious river flowing uphill, flowing from a hidden cave beneath the lake.
Curiosity stirred in her heart, and she followed the unusual river to its origin. The cave’s entrance yawned dark and foreboding, but she pressed on, guided by a light deeper within. At the end of the winding path, she entered a room aglow with magic—and there, standing majestically, was a large enchanted mirror.
Peering into its depths, she saw the reflection of her mother, warm and tender. Yet as she looked closer, she realized that the water’s strange journey—the river flowing uphill—came directly from this mirror. Before she could wonder more, a terrible wizard appeared.
“So, you have uncovered my secret,” he sneered. “This mirror pulls future water into the present, causing the river to flow backward into the lake. But none must know of my doing.” His eyes gleamed darkly as he added, “I must silence you,” and with a sudden zap, her voice was whisked away, trapped within the mirror.
Frantic and voiceless, she fled the cave, desperate to warn her village, but her silent warnings went unheard. Tears flowed freely as she searched for a way to save her home.
In the distance, a warm sunlight glimmered on a distant castle surrounded by lush meadows. Drawn to the inviting glow, she made her way there. As she approached, the drawbridge lowered, and an old man dressed in vibrant orange greeted her kindly.
He led her inside the castle courtyard, where a magnificent orange tree stood tall. “I know of the magic mirror and the fate of your village,” he said softly. “I tried to warn them, but they did not listen. Instead, I have tended this enchanted orange tree. It draws the floodwaters from the lake and stores it within its fruit. The tree is thirsty and strong, its roots deep enough to move the earth.”
The old man handed her a bag of seeds. “Plant these around the castle,” he urged, “for I am too old to do so myself. It is a task of great importance.”
The young girl worked tirelessly, scattering the seeds across the castle grounds. Exhausted, she found a quiet chamber with a large bed and fell into a deep sleep that stretched on for what felt like an eternity.
When she awoke, the castle stood atop a mighty mountain, surrounded by groves of thriving orange trees heavy with fruit. The old man was nowhere to be found, but the air was sweet with promise.
Thirsty from her slumber, she shook the nearest tree, and a juicy orange tumbled to the ground. As she bit into its sweet flesh, a miracle happened—her voice returned, vibrant and strong.
Rushing back to her village, she found it devastated by floodwaters. Heartbroken, she returned to the cave and faced the magic mirror once more. Seeing her mother’s reflection again, she reached out, but her future self slipped back into the glass. With a shattering crack, the mirror broke, and the river reversed its course.
Emerging from the cave, she witnessed her village restored, its people celebrating the return of the lake.
Later, remembering the old man, she returned to the castle to express her gratitude. Searching every corner, she found only a note, an orange dress, and a small bag in the garden.
The note read:
“You have broken my curse and returned me to my original seed. When you are ready, plant me in the garden. Kisses, The Orange Prince.”
Putting on the orange dress, she became the Princess of the Orange Citadel. And after many days and nights, she planted the seed, ready to continue the magic and protect her kingdom.
Moral of the Story
Courage and kindness can break the darkest curses, and even the smallest seeds of hope can grow into mighty legacies.
