An excerpt from “Magical Folklore: Revised 1944 by Aura Aaron Biancuore,” renowned as the first Day Vampyr honored by the Secret Services, protector of the Air Realm, and brother to Eirick Biancuore, a national hero and head of charms at the Magical Creatures Conservatoire of Magnificence (McM).

Understanding the Balance of Magic

In the annals of magical folklore passed down by the enigmatic Others—creators of the realms—we discover how life was fashioned with one sacred principle: choice. Each species, crafted with distinct qualities, was given the opportunity to forge their own destiny through either white magic, a wellspring of wisdom and harmony, or the perilous allure of black magic, which grants instant power but only through violence and corruption.

All creatures, save for the angels, were granted this choice. Angels, beings who once lived as mortals, were elevated in death to their celestial station, eternally bound to service in the Air Realm. Yet, even in a world of balance and rules, there was a singular deviation—a dark anomaly in the fabric of magic: the creation of the first Vampyr.

Albin Didier Balazs – The Ambitious Sorcerer

The tragedy began with Albin Didier Balazs, a gifted but obsessive young wizard from humble origins. Driven by relentless ambition, he aspired not merely to master magic but to surpass all wizards before him. His days were consumed with study and practice, pushing his body and mind to the brink. Alarmed by his growing fanaticism, the Air Realm appointed him a guardian angel, Nero, to guide and protect him from the abyss of black magic.

At first, Nero’s guidance was gentle and enlightening. But Albin’s desire for supremacy became an obsession. Frustrated by his limitations, he grew resentful of Nero’s effortless power, mistaking divine magic earned through angelic sacrifice for mere talent.

Descent into Madness

One fateful night, after yet another failed attempt at a forbidden level seven spell, Albin succumbed to his darker instincts. In a feverish state, he observed the glimmer of light within Nero’s veins, mistaking it for the secret of angelic magic. His mind spiraled into madness, convinced that he could consume this light and obtain power beyond mortal means.

In a horrific act of betrayal, Albin mutilated his own teeth into jagged fangs and attacked Nero as he slept, sinking his broken teeth into the angel’s wrist and neck. Despite Nero’s struggles, the angel’s life force drained, his body dissolving into ethereal dust—a tragic death at the hands of his own charge.

But Albin’s triumph was grotesque. His veins turned black, his blood darkened to obsidian, and with it came an unbearable thirst—a hunger for blood. His body no longer felt pain, cold, or exhaustion, but his heart was hollow, replaced by an insatiable craving.

The Birth of the First Vampyr

Driven by instinct, Albin stumbled into a nearby village, where the scent of human blood overwhelmed his senses. In a frenzy, he attacked a young girl, draining her life force. With each drop, Albin grew stronger, faster, and colder. Bullets could no longer pierce his flesh. His humanity was lost.

From his atrocities, an ominous forest arose—Vampyr Cove in southern Ralatusia, where the blood of the fallen nourished trees with dark bark and a crimson sap. It is said that where each victim perished, twisted trees now stand, whispering with the trapped souls of the dead.

Albin’s transformation continued—his skin turned pallid as snow, his lips black, his hair midnight dark. The infection of his blood gave rise to more of his kind, either through his cursed progeny or through the reanimation of powerful beings he drained, forever damning them to the vampyric curse.

Legacy and Redemption

Though Albin’s legacy birthed a species of cold and predatory creatures, modern research reveals that not all Vampyrs remain prisoners of their bloodlust. Some, like Aura Aaron Biancuore—the Day Vampyr who walks among sunlight and mortals—have sought redemption and harmony with the magical and non-magical realms alike.

There remains hope that this cursed lineage may yet find a place in the balance of magic. Understanding the origins of darkness offers the first step towards peace and coexistence.

Moral of the Story

Unchecked ambition, when tainted with envy and pride, can lead to ruinous corruption. True power comes not from consumption or theft but from patience, wisdom, and integrity. Power without understanding is a curse, not a gift.
